Make Music Matter presents the song ‘Navumilia’ (translated from Swahili as ‘Perseverance’) by Cohorte Les Solidaires from Katana, South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo. With this track, the artists want to send out an encouraging message to those who have lost hope in the face of adversity. ‘Navumilia’ marks the second release from this collective of artists, following their debut EP Umoja Ni Nguvu (Unity is Strength) released in August 2023.

Life for me is so difficult
From day to day I cry incessantly
Sometimes I think it would be better to die
Sometimes I tell myself that living is better
I will persevere and see if tomorrow will be better
Why have negative thoughts when there are so many who suffer in this world

Advance advance advance
Move forward
Shu shu shu shu shu shu shu shu shu shu shu

For me life is so difficult
But I’m still fighting
I will not tire
I will keep on fighting

Raising children is very difficult for me
Clothing them, feeding them, sending them to school is so difficult
My income is insufficient
I don’t know where to start
I am unwell
My body won’t allow me to seek life
I no longer know what to do or where to take refuge

For me life is so difficult
But I’m still fighting
I will not tire
I will keep on fighting
